Perricone Brochure Update

Hi all, just wanted to post an update and get a little insight because i'm struggling a bit with my sub- brochure design.

The first picture below is going to display my brochure folder, which will hold two mini-brochures on each side. I was wondering about the background of the brochure folder, I'm going to post a few different versions to see what you all think.

After that I will post some of the mini-brochure designs i have been playing with. I have not added any of my actual content yet, i'm waiting until my design is set in stone (other than some pictures, etc.) so there is placeholder text where i will be putting my real content. Let me know which parts of the design are better than others, what you think I can change, what you hate, what you think is working, etc. Also I've been thinking about adding more color, spice it up a little, the red and white is getting a bit repetitive and bland in my opinion. I've just been working on it so long that everything that I add just looks off, so suggestions are absolutely more than welcome.

Brochure Folder Variations (different backgrounds):

Brochure Design #1:

=
Brochure Design #2:
(more content would be added in the white space at the bottom if i decide to go with this design)

Brochure Design #3:

I know they're all pretty similar, but any input is appreciated, thanks for looking and taking time to help me out!

  1. Looking at the Brochure folder i'm starting to hate all 3 backgrounds, might start over with a new approach, will update by tomorrow.

  2. David - My response to your thoughts about getting tired of the design, is that YOU might be getting tired of the color palette – but we aren’t. The red/gray/white palette is quote lovely, and I encourage you to stick with it.

Pocket Folder – I think this looks quite nice, and would recommend choosing the middle layout, with background shapes containing only light mauve and white (no grey). The grey in the top layout is starting to make the piece look a t bit dark – and even a bit dirty. And the colors seem too light in the bottom layout. The middle seems to hold just the correct amount of color value, and allows the photo to add those gray tones.

I enjoy the idea of type behind the brochures. But make sure the type stays further away from your dotted lines (indicating the brochure placement) than I see here. You have plenty of room in this area – and the brochures might slide a bit uncovering the type awkwardly… so decrease your line lengths and add a substantial amount of leading … to give these quotes more design attention. Proof them carefully, I see some typos. Lastly – the line “You print. We finish. Strong” is too close to the fold and needs to move right more.

Mini Brochures – by this, I am guessing that you are planning to include 2 brochures that are only 1 fold each… so they both contain 4 panels. I think that’s what I’m seeing.

Brochure Design #1 seems to be a bit more sophisticated layout than the other 2 layouts. I say this because the background shapes (red and grey) are not simply repeated shapes, but “hang” down from the top to different levels on the page. Nice. The round circles with drop shadows (are those shadows a bit too dark?) are a nice contrast. Allowing the text to overlap the grey shape is also a nice touch. I do have a concern about the inside gutter margin, along the fold. Please don’t allow the text on the left hand page to come this close – instead repeat the margin I see on the right hand page along that same fold. I would also suggest that the left page hold a bit more type than the right… so the composition of both pages, together, is balanced. If you approach the 2nd brochure in this way, I think they will make a good series together.

I am not sure where you will be placing the letterhead and business card, so don’t forget about them. Instead of an 8.5 x 11 full sized letterhead, you could reduce that part of the identity packet and instead place a “note pad” sized sheet… with a note to the designer on it. That might fit better in the pocket folder you have designed.

    Keep up the good work.
