Screen Printing-Logo Continued

Hola!

Continued to play around with my logo some more. 'Flo Screen Printing' was my favorite name and the feed back helped push my decision to go with it. It stays true to my inspiration and to the art of screen printing.

I wanted to create the illusion of a stencil or print with my logo. I also wanted to stay close to the 'screen' shape.  Including the black square with white type I felt created the illusion of a stencil or screen. Also, I was thinking that the black box with the type would eventually be able to sit alone without the 'screen printing' for other uses of the logo (such as on t-shirts, ads, images etc.).

As a personal design style I usually lean towards black and white logo use only. I tried to push my boundaries a little, as print usually works with many color choices. Out of the 5 logos I picked my two favorites and applied color from the 'Pop Art' color swatches that implied warm/expressive/fun. They are also colors that I felt reflected some of Hokusai's colors.

Was hoping to get some feed back on the overall black square vs. no black square.
Also I am always a fan of black&white logos so I was wondering what people thought about color or if they feel it's strong enough to do without (or both). Excited to receive feed back to further my design brief.

Thank you friends!- Lauren :P

  1. I'm in love with your last black and white logo! I think you did a great job at integrating "Screen Printing" into the square logo with the fine line treatment as well as suggested the process of screen printing with the white text on black square treatment (the outline also makes me think of the wooden board around the screen). I think it's very successful.
I like your colour palette a lot as well. I think it works both in black and white or in another solid colour—I'm leaning more towards the orange or blue because I feel yellow would be easy to lose in certain prints, although it can still be used as a secondary colour.

  2. Lauren – I understand the reasoning behind placing the logo inside a rectangle, and it makes sense. So the first or last logo seems a good choice. And, because I still enjoy the little wave at the bottom of the “O”, and because I believe that a logo should be instantly recognizable and readable, I think your first logo fits those parameters. However – the typography that “flows” in the last is also a good direction. I think either would work. The black and white versions are very strong – and so when you translate this into color I think you need to make sure this translates into colors that are also dominant, bold colors. The yellow version gets lost, there is not enough contrast. And, I wonder if the blue seems to suggest cyan – a part of the cmyk process. Does that make sense for screen printing? So, we are left with orange. It will work, but so will many many other mid-range to dark colors… so come up with a good reason for it, or for whatever color you end up with. I wonder what color speaks to your audience? High energy? Dark, bold and serious? Trendy? Because water also flows, does a deeper blue make sense? The Pop Art collection might work for you… but I’ll want to know why that grouping of colors is the most appropriate. Make sure you can defend this choice
