SO I wanted to make a post really quickly about my pocket folder, Im making it a grab bag sort of. I know businesses love to have promotional give away pieces and I figured if my company is working with artists why not give them something they can use.
I made the pocket folder from canvas and I'm planning on administering a rough screen printing application of the logo and some splatter designs on the bottom of the bag. It has pockets on the inside to hold all the collateral. I guess my only question I have is should i made a stencil for the decorative splatter I want to add to the bag or should I play with actually splatter painting it. I myself am leaning more toward the stencil but I want a secondary opinion

  1. What a cool and unique idea…the bag looks great.
I guess it depends on how many colours you’re thinking of using for the bag. If the logo will be one colour, then it could be nice to have some natural splatters on the bottom in the remaining cmyk. My only concern with making your own splatter is if some sort of accident happens and the bag gets ruined. Can you provide an example of what the stenciled splatter would look like?

Most importantly, make sure the logo is crisp and exact (definitely use screen printing for it) and doesn’t get lost in the many splatters—it should serve as the focal point in the bag.

  2. Em – I think, before you actually splatter this, you practice your hand made splatter a whole lot on extra fabric so you are relaxed and confident that the splatter will appear as you intend. If you aren’t happy with the control, or lack there of, then stencil will be the best option. But – a hand splatter is a very different element than a sharp edged stencil shape (I’ve done both, so I know). If you want the spontaneous artful approach – no stencil will give you that. I’ve just gone back to visit your earlier post that included your rough designs for the logo which included very intentional splashes. They are crisp and very controlled – so if you want to support your logo (and your logo is based on these roughs) then I vote for the stencil! Is there a brochure involved here – I hope so, it’s actually required. Will that sit inside the pouch? Can you post that design please?
