Post–feedback Raincity revisions

The cards all be on the smaller scale (7.5x5), so a tiny bit larger than a postcard. They will three assembled as three heavyweight papers thick (white on the outside, blue on the inside), so they won’t be pinned to a wall—I was thinking of something more like this (http://bit.ly/1mj0LUl).
The cards will indeed be sent as a series. What I meant by the slit in the folder was something like this: http://bit.ly/1NYqZBJ

I really liked Coni’s suggestion to add a colored bar on the bottom of the front cards with the white logo and feel they look a lot more complete thanks to it. I’ve been playing around with color and feel a bit stuck. I bumped up the vibrance for all the colors and changed the yellow to blue so it’s now more legible (and all cards now have a blue colour—rain!). Are the combinations okay?

The back of the cards began to feel a bit plain to me so I played around with both the layout and typesetting to make them a bit more interesting. I’m wondering if the contact information on the bottom looks a bit lost? I tried another rectangle underneath (both short or extended to the bleeds) but it felt a bit overwhelming.

  1. Tania – you have solved the floating bottom elements. The bottom element on the back side looks fine to me, since there are 2 lines… and the “Come say hello at…” is a cute way to soft sell. Nice. Including the Raincity blue on all cards is a very good idea…. So the Victore card seems to miss it. Can you include that brilliant blue along with the darker blue? Yes, I know it will mean you are using 3 colors here – so if that doesn’t settle right consider replacing the dark, formal blue with a bright purple. Something need to happen to the colors in that card, so it fits into the series more securely.

  2. Tan, these are beautiful! I am such a sucker for clean, organized, and meaningful design, which you nailed. The only thing I was looking to see in your final project was some sort of example or representation of what letter press is all about..was that something you were considering? I understand that it is expensive to do so but I think if there is small features you could pull from each card, for instance the glasses in the Chip Kidd design or the word Weird in the James Victore design, that maybe could have some sort of letter press technique applied. Even if you were to take a tool and hand press it yourself (which I am unaware of how hard/easy that would be).

I know in the Victore design card you mention that Rain City does unique and distinctive invitations for wedding's with letter press- I'm afraid if that was something someone was interested in, the overall presentation of the card design variations might be confusing for a potential client. Just a thought!

I think the quotes and individual designs are so well thought out, I just think there is just a little something that will tie everything together and represent the process of your company as well! Awesome job..I really do enjoy the creativity. Really looking forward to seeing the final results!
